Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder mostly experienced by women. However, in certain cases men can also be affected by this infection. Usually the inflammation is caused by a bacterial infection. Early treatment of this infection is advisable to prevent spread of the infection to the kidneys.
There are different causes for the infection. Usually the infection is due to a urinary tract infection (UTI). Other causes of the infection are radiation therapy, the use of certain feminine hygiene products or the use of a catheter for a long time. There is a variety of symptoms for cystitis:
Strong urge to frequent urination
Burning feeling while urinating
Small and frequent amounts of urination
Strong smelling urine
Blood in the urine
Pressure in the lower abdomen
How can Cystitis be treated?
Cystitis can usually be easily treated with antibiotics.
